White and Red wedding gifts

The first request was black and red. I was wondering what i could do with that odd combination for a wedding hantaran(gifts). But 3 nights before the ceremony, the request was changed to white and red. I think that was a better choice of color with the used of 'bakul siah'.
The electricity went off for a few hours while i was halfway doing these. Lucky me that i baked the cupcakes just before noon. I am quite happy with the outcome.

The pictures below, are the gadget that i used . But i didnt snap picture of the jelly cutter that i used to make the wavy lines on the fondant. The cupcakes before being made up but cemented with chocolate ganache.

Engagement gifts for someone in Malacca....

A few week ago while taking a breather from cleaning up my apartment in KL, I received a call from a not familiar number. The caller asked if i was able to accommodate her request for engagement gifts of cupcakes on 18 of July. As I was only halfway done with the apartment, I requested her to email me her details and send a few samples for me to look at later at home. When she told me she was from Malacca, i was concerned about delivering the cupcakes. She eased my worry when she told me she would make the arrangement to collect them in Seremban. She wanted peach color and i came out with a simple sweet fondant flowers arrangement. On the 18th evening, i handed over the cupcakes to her brother at Seremban tollUpdate: this is what i used to get the criss cross lines on the fondant.....

Something different....

This happened during the last school holidays. Sometimes i call school holidays as mating seasons he he...i am actually quoting a fellow blogger here.
I did a lot of baking during that holiday and i was getting giddy just looking at loads and loads of muffins, cupcakes and cakes. So when there was a last minute request to bake cake for cake cutting ceremony, i suggested using yellow rice for something a bit different than most. I had seen people in KL doing it, but yet to come across in Seremban. Surprisingly, my suggestion was accepted. One thing for sure, i had gotten a lot of questions while putting on the simple deco consisted of cherry tomatoes, chili padi, curry leaf , mashed potatoes and bits of carrots.

The reason i put up this posting because I saw 2 pictures in latest Rasa magazine showing the using of yellow rice for weddings and i think this trend is catching on he he...

Delivery to Puchong on 13 July..........

My husband and i left Seremban just before 10.00 am yesterday. We were caught in the massive jam after the Sg. Besi toll. And i think i had ran out of expletives in that almost an hour sitting and fidgeting in the car. We arrived Puchong, where I had to deliver these(see pics below) for a wedding after 12 o'clock( i wanted to be there much earlier just to ease the bride's stress for not having a complete set of hantaran he he ..........). The bride only told me that the theme color was green, when i asked for any preference for the cupcakes wedding gifts. I came out with a simple fondant hats with tiny little flowers on them. The chocolate cake was just for tea after the wedding. So Im, thanks for your trust in me and I wish you all the best being a wife and hope and pray that you and husband will love, cherish each other and happy together until the end of time.Of course the big cake is Chocolate Cake with chocolate ganache topping and small yellow fondant daisies. I need more practice writing on the cake, do not why the hand always shakes when i write on a cake. The cupcakes were orange cake with chocolate ganache topping too. By the way, I was also invited to the wedding and the food served was very yummy and loved the entertainment by youngsters karaokaying their hearts out.

Cheap labors......

When i had big quantities of muffins to bake and pack, I had to rely on my boys' assistance. Most of the time they only got me to cook their favorite food for the payment he he....the eldest asked for Daging dendeng, the middle one asked for spaghetti and the youngest asked for french toast. Better than an Indonesian helper isn't it ha ha ha........

Guilt.....

After almost 2 years staying home, suddenly i feel guilty doing that. Felt the pang when i pumped in the gas of my car last Saturday. My other half would do that for me when i told him the car was running low. I had to do it myself as the indicator was blinking crazily and he was away. I paid RM95.00 for a full tank. Before the increased of the fuel price, it was RN75.00...oohh dear. Then this morning, i went to the market and bought long bean which had 7 pieces already "rubber banded" and cost me RM1.00....felt like putting them back but my chili api rendang wont be my rendang without the sliced long beans. And i did not have to buy another vegetable. So anyone out there has any vacancy around Seremban area please get in touch ............

The long beans were gorgeous in this rendang. Suddenly my mind went to a friend somewhere on the other side of the world. Wish i could pack you some of these rendang....but for now just enjoy the pictures he he......for Che Mat terror masak click here for recipe, personally i like this rendang with beef but the kids requested chicken this time.

These were Coconut Mini tartlets I made for dessert. to me its delicious but were not to my boys liking....they are more into cheese tarts or the earlier posted crumbled blueberry tarts.

to Sg Buloh and cakes baking weekend.....

Last Saturday was kinda hectic day for me and the older 3 guys in this home except for the youngest. By 7.30 am, the youngest boy was left at the grandparents house and 3 of us , my other half, the 2nd boy and yours truly left for Kuala Lumpur. At almost 8.30 i dropped off the other 2 boys(small and big he he) at Stadium Bukit Jalil. And drove in the ever famous golden arch fast food restaurant drive through for black coffee. Used the Pencala link but i got lost for missing the exit due to misleading sign boards. I made it to Sungai Buluh at 10.10 am and i felt very bad.
My trip to Sg Buluh was to learn the art of making royal icing flowers like the picture above. Can you imagine, there were people who came all the way from Changlun, Kedah, Penang and Pahang to learn how to do this. They have my utmost admiration and respect for their passion to upgrade their knowledge in cake decoration crafts. I had seen many of their skills and styles in their blogs like here, here and here( apology to those that i miss). We did not have much time to get to know each other better as we were pressed for time to learn to make 10 types of flowers. But, i was just surprised that the topic of our conversation during the lunch break was about the sad level of corruptions in our public sectors....ha ha ha ...what a topic for cakes makers ya....I left Sg Buloh for Seremban just after 5.00 pm wishing i could continue the next class on Sunday. Thanks to Lynn the wonderful sifoo and the ever gracious host. To everyone else, it was a real pleasure meeting all of you and hope we will see each other again one day.

On Sunday morning I baked some muffins and a birthday cake for my next door neighbor's daughter 11th birthday. She wanted choc chips muffins individually packed and chocolate cake for the celebration. It felt that the whole house lighted up when she saw the cake he he.....her wide sweet smile just made my day.
Someone also requested chocolate cupcakes with chocolate ganache topping for her to bring to see the daughter in one of the boarding school in Seremban. And another order of similar cupcakes for just makan-makan session with friends. After delivering all the cakes, i joined my boys big and small having DVD marathon as the weather outside was very wet. Later i found out that some of my neighbors houses were flooded. What a weekend.....
