Chocolate Crumble Cheesecake

This is the cheesecake which made me hook to baking. I learned to make this cake from owner of the bakery shop near my sister's home which she frequented often. So i sat for almost 2 hours watching the lady demonstrated on how to make this cake and a few other recipes. I was fidgeting as i was not used to just sit at the same place for long. But, after taking a bite of this cake i said to myself...wow! yummmyyyyy.....4 layers of goodness; the cake base, the cream cheese, the crumb and the crunchy almond flakes.....then i discovered many recipes from the internet, and my interest in baking soars......

Here is the recipe for the cake

Chocolate Crumble Cheesecake

Cake base and crumble
325g Supersoft flour (Superfine can too)
125g castor sugar
190g butter
1 egg size A but B will do too
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup sour cream or alt 100gm whip topping cream + 2 tbsp lemon juice

Cheese layer
500g cream cheese at room temperature
50g castore sugar
1 egg size A

melted chocolate/any flavor of jam( i used strawberry)
almond flakes ( abt a cup )

  1. Heat the oven at 180 C
  2. Grease and flour the sides and bottom of a 9 in loose base cake tin
  3. Mix the flour and sugar well
  4. Cut in butter until crumbly and reserve 1 1/4 cup of the crumble.
  5. as for remaining mixture, add in baking powder, baking soda, salt, sourcream or the alternate, the egg and mix them well.
  6. Spread the batter evenly in the cake tin.
  7. Then, beat cream cheese, castor sugar and the egg together till incorporated.
  8. Pour over the batter and level off
  9. Pipe the melted chocolate over the cream cheese - see pic below or you can be creative here, i just used small plastic which i cut the tip to pipe the choc
  10. Spoon the jam as you wish
  11. Sprinkle with crumble then the almond flakes
  12. Bake for 45 - 50 mins or until skewer inserted into the center comes out clean
  13. Cool in the pan for 15 min, the remove the side of the cake tin.
  14. Enjoy warm or cold.
Note: after 30 - 35 in the oven, cover the cake with grease proof paper to avoid the flakes frm burnt.

I know...i know the name is a bit misleading but thats what that lady call this cake. Btw, whats in the name as long as its yummyyyy.....

zai,

you are such a fantastic baker. one day, kalau i turun NS (macam initial I, kan?) i singgah and (alamak, muka tak malu I ni) i boleh sample one of your baking wizardry (baru habis baca Harry Potter, so i gunakan perkataan "wizard"ry)..

tapi, one day, tu tak tahu bila lah.

failing which, i will ask my sister, Lalin who confesses to reading your blog, to bake this recipe.

I tak pandai bake tapi P A N D A I makan cake.

Zai, Great blog you have there, the cakes look tempting. Love the Asam Pedas. It actually wet my appetite. I love good cakes with my coffee and usually my spouse and me would just lepak at the Strudel or the Alexis Bistro for coffee or tea and enjoy the cakes there.

The whole family from Nenek, to our daughters and now granddaughters love creating foods, especially cakes, so I am blessed with the eating whenever they start to venture into baking.

Keep blogging and Have a nice day, Take care.

zai,

you come to KL?
that's really great. and YES, we can meet somewhere and have coffee/tea - my treat!

and if you bring your muffins, that's a real treat but you really don't have to. but if you do, what a bonus.

You from KL? that's interesting. which part?

Hi Zai,

I stumbled across your blog while trawling the net, and the cake pic caught my attention! I'm organising a charity fun fair for the NGO that I work for on the 11th and 12th of August and I'm looking for people to take up booths. Would you be interested in selling your cakes and muffins? Drop me a line at sumitra@maa.com.my and I'll give you more details.
In the mean time, thanks for the recipe!
Cheers!!
